The University of São Paulo (USP) is a public university, maintained by the State of São Paulo and affiliated with the State Secretariat of Economic, Scientific and Technological Development. USP is ranked the top university in South America, recognized for the scientific achievements, talent and dedication of USP professors, students and employees.

Institute of Astronomy, Geophysics and Atmospheric Sciences

IAG is one of the major Earth and Universe Sciences research centers in Brazil, organized into three departments hosted at USP main campus. In addition, IAG also keeps the Meteorological Station, located at the Ipiranga Springs State Park, and the Abrahão de Moraes Observatory, in the town of Valinhos. The three IAG Graduate Programs have trained more than 650 Masters and 380 PhDs since the 1970s. Every year, IAG receives around 75 new undergraduate students in its three courses.

Institute of Mathematics and Statistics

IME is a leading research and teaching institution in the areas of Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics and Mathematics. It provides services to the community through the "Centro de Ensino de Computação" (CEC), by offering courses in the computing area; the "Centro de Aperfeiçoamento do Ensino da Matemática" (CAEM), by training mathematics professors of public schools; the "Centro de Estatística Aplicada" (CEA), by supporting projects and statistics consulting for researchers; the "Centro de Matemática e Computação Aplicadas" (CEMCAP), by working with companies and institutions interested in applied mathematics and computing; and the "Centro de Competência em Software Livre" (CCSL) by fostering the development of free and open source software, inside and outside the University.

Institute of Physics

The Institute of Physics at USP is the largest and oldest institution of research and education of Physics in Brazil, consisting of more than 225 researchers, including 159 professors, 400 postgraduated and 1200 graduated students. The IF has 26 buildings to shelter 17 classrooms, 5 auditoriums, and many didactic and research laboratories and administration offices. It houses laboratories of experimental physics in nuclear physics, detectors and instrumentation, solid state physics and low temperatures, plasma, crystallography, optics, epitaxy of molecular beams, electronic microscopy, air pollution, analysis of materials by ionic beams, and more. The activity in theoretical and mathematical physics is also intense. The Institute covers almost all areas of physics and can be considered the most complete Brazilian institution in the field.

Polytechnic School

Founded in 1893, POLI was the first engineering school in the state of São Paulo, which was later incorporated to the USP in 1934. As many graduates from this institution have, throughout Brazilian history, occupied positions with public exposure and/or business and industry leadership, including ten mayors of São Paulo and six state governors, it has a reputation for training leaders. The Polytechnic School belongs to University of São Paulo, widely regarded one of the best higher education institutions in Latin America, having its Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering courses ranked as the best in the country.

Nuclear and Energy Research Institute - National Nuclear Energy Commission (IPEN-CNEN)

IPEN is a governmental agency linked to the Secretary of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation of the São Paulo State Government and managed technically and administratively by CNEN, an agency of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) of the Federal Government. Located at the USP campus, occupying an area of 500,000 square meters, IPEN has today an outstanding performance in various sectors of nuclear activity, such as in applications of radiation and radioisotopes in nuclear reactors, materials and fuel cycle, radiation protection and dosimetry, whose results come from providing significant advances in the field of technologies, in the production of materials and in the provision of economic and strategic value for the country, extending the benefits of nuclear energy to larger segments of the population.
